Typha australis (sledgehammer, distaff) is a local plant become intrusive after the construction of the dam(roadblock) anti-salt of Diama in 1986. Typha reduces the zones of agricultural and fish production and favors the development of hydric diseases. The project aims at making of this plant, available in great quantities in the low delta of the Senegal River, a local energy resource to limit its invasion in the strategic zones for the populations and reduce the production of charcoal stemming from forests not managed by the region. The production of coal from Typha is going to generate of the economic activity and jobs(uses) in villages affected(touched) by Typha which will be equipped with production units managed by rustic craftsmen(architects).
In partnership with the Higher institute of Technological Education of Rosso (ISET) and the National park of Diawling (PND), Gret works on the development of a process of production and a product adapted to the local context, the implementation of the local sector of production of the coal and the support for the marketing of the product in its zone of production and for Nouakchott.
