The CSIRO Biosecurity Flagship assembles strong multi-disciplinary research teams to tackle the major national and international biosecurity challenges critical for ongoing agricultural sustainability and environmental and human health. We work with governments and industry to assist in bringing scale and connectivity to help Australia prevent, prepare for and respond to the spread and impacts of pests, weeds and diseases, and we achieve this by working across the biosecurity continuum – investigating risks offshore, at the border, as well as monitoring what is happening in our own backyard. We explore new technologies for detection, surveillance, diagnosis and response and we will continue science endeavours to pre-empt and respond to the next human pandemic. Overall, we aim for a biosecurity system that is pre-emptive, responsive, resilient, and based on cutting edge surveillance, informatics and new technologies for integrated response.
