The overall objective of GreenRice is to design and test a new rice production system for Europe capable to cope with climate change through reduction of greenhouse gases and water input.
Facing climate change and water scarcity in Europe, the GreenRice project will test the alternative wetting and drying system (AWDS) in Europe. AWDS is a rice production system based on intermittent irrigation that can save water (by 15-30%) while reducing greenhouse gas emission (up to 48%).
The AWD system, based on intermittent irrigation, will ensure sufficient productivity while at the same time reducing and adapting to climate change effects. The expected results are:
