The SCARF (Soil CARbon Farming) network .

The SCARF network is an expanding network of European carbon storage initiatives. It aims to bring together different types of agricultural carbon storage actors and to bring together different types of models and practices. This network is coordinated by the INRAE within the framework of the project Soil Carbon Farming Funded by the EIT Climate-KIC. In this project, we have a problem solving approach and we consider three dimensions:

  • the solutions
  • the Monitoring Reporting Verification(MRV) certification
  • the scaling mechanism.

Within the framework of the SCARF network, we collaborate in the following ways :

  • Knowledge sharing: During several webinars held in 2021, we worked on different types of carbon storage practices (plant cover, peat, ...), on the sharing of expertise on methodologies and labels, on different aspects of MRV and on the scaling of projects and practices.
  • The development of synergies between the network

At present, the SCARF network includes 22 initiatives, which are:

  1. Svensk Kolinlagring (Sweden)
  2. The Green Circle Sustainable Fries Chain (Netherlands)
  3. CarbonThink (France)
  4. Soil Capital (France and Belgium)
  5. Natais (France)
  6. France Carbon Agri Association (France)
  7. Carbon action (Finland)
  8. MoorFutures (Germany)
  9. LIFE AgroClimaWater (Greece and Italy)
  10. Humus Programm- Ökoregion Kaindorf (Germany)
  11. European Carbon Farmer (Poland)
  12. Wij.land- Rabobank Carbon Bank pilot (The Netherlands)
